New Year, New Season.
This weekend the men of Sykes Regulars came together for their annual meeting in snowy Gettysburg, PA. For most of us, it was a chance to see faces unseen for months or even longer. It was a chance to catch up with old friends. And it was a chance to welcome some new faces. But most of all, it was a chance to discuss our upcoming year--the first year of the Civil War Sesquicentennial.
It looks like 2011 is going to be one of the biggest and busiest years in the history of Sykes. Our schedule contains a fair mixture of reenactments, living history events, and a couple of other unique opportunities to relive the Civil War in new and exciting ways. But all agree nothing will be more spectacular than taking the field at the 150th Bull Run Reenactment in full dress uniforms alongside other US Army Regulars in a special Regulars Brigade.
After a few months of inactivity, it is finally time to break winter quarters and shake off the cobwebs. This season will be one of the last for a couple of our members who are moving on. For a few--hopefully many--more, this will be their first season. For most it will be another helluva year. But whether freezing cold, atrociously hot, or wet beyond belief, we will have fun and we will have it together.
